What we believe

The UK should demonstrate leadership in the clean transformation

The climate crisis is growing more urgent by the day. The UK can and should be a leader in the clean transformation ahead, building partnerships outside the country to amplify efforts, and in the process generating enduring competitiveness and future-proof jobs. With the US and EU spending hundreds of billions of dollars to boost demand for clean technologies, the time to build this future leadership is now.

Innovation means industrial competitiveness

The UK has a world-leading innovation and finance ecosystem, yet there isn’t the same track record in consistently converting that capability into global technology champions. We believe building competitiveness and more innovation-led, global champions requires a long-term industrial and investment plan, bold policy-making, and new levels of public/private collaboration.

Cleantech for a resilient UK

We need to create a better, prosperous future for all, as well as a more circular and resource-efficient economy with reliable access to raw materials, supply chains and manufacturing capacity and affordable, sustainable, low carbon energy. Developing and deploying clean technologies at scale can create a new energy and resource paradigm for the UK.

What we are striving for

Better models to commercialise innovation

We need more effective commercialisation at all stages. A thriving commercialisation ecosystem, that fully capitalises on the UK’s strengths in innovation and finance. More innovative, targeted later stage support mechanisms to bring through the next generation of scaleups, creating new industries and bringing down the green premium.

Connecting the cleantech ecosystem

By combining forces we can go further and faster. Through continuous communication and open dialogue between innovators, investors, corporates and public officials we will increase transparency, reduce information gaps, and improve coordination within the UK and with our partners elsewhere, to supercharge cleantech growth. Speaking with one voice will give us stronger presence on the global stage.

A policy and regulatory environment built for innovation

We call for proactive policy which sets stable, long-term demand signals and forward thinking regulation which keeps up with the pace of innovation, responds to the needs of emerging technologies and enables fair competition with incumbent technologies.

Part of the

Umbrella

Cleantech for Europe was formed in 2021 to bridge the gap between the cleantech community and European policymakers.

First coalition gathering 20+ European cleantech VC firms, has successfully advocated for EU policy advances in better financing and creating demand for cleantech.

Following early success of Cleantech for Europe, similar initatives are launching in selected countries and regions throughout Europe and beyond.

Cleantech for Europe is continuously looking for opportunities to promote the development and deployment of clean technologies locally, to provide input into national policy debates and to promote synergies and amplification of effort between regions and satelllite initiatives.
