Fresh off supporting the launch of the new ClimateTech APPG earlier this week, Cleantech for UK is proud to announce the release of the third annual ClimateTech Policy Coalition report. This vital publication delivers insights from the frontline of climate innovation, showcasing key barriers and opportunities for scaling cleantech in the UK.
In partnership with the Startup Coalition, TechUK, Tech Nation, Tech Zero, and Undaunted: Tackling climate change with innovation, this year’s report offers a comprehensive view of the state of ClimateTech. By uniting diverse perspectives, it highlights actionable recommendations to support the growth of cleantech companies and accelerate the UK’s transition to a net-zero economy.
"The UK’s ClimateTech ecosystem stands at a critical juncture. While the new Government sparked initial optimism, our research reveals a sector eager for clear policy direction and support. This report offers actionable, quick-win recommendations to help the UK seize immediate opportunities and lead in ClimateTech innovation, turning ideas into tangible economic and environmental progress" - Sarah Mackintosh, Director, Cleantech for UK
Cleantech for UK played a pivotal role in shaping this year’s report by organizing investor roundtables that explored the challenges of scaling climate innovation from an investor’s perspective. These discussions brought together a plurality of investors, including venture capital firms and larger funds, to share insights on the barriers to scaling cleantech. Alongside these roundtables, a survey of 59 founders, led by the Startup Coalition, further informed the report’s findings and recommendations.
"Innovation must be at the heart of the UK’s climate agenda, and this report offers a clear pathway for aligning Government priorities with the needs of the ClimateTech sector" - Charlie Garner, Policy Associate at Cleantech for UK
The report concludes with a refreshed blueprint for Government action, focusing on bridging the gap between ambitious climate goals and practical implementation. By addressing the concerns of ClimateTech founders and investors, the report outlines steps to unlock the full potential of cleantech innovation while balancing political and economic constraints.
As the ClimateTech community looks to 2025, there is a clear call for action. While early engagement with policymakers has resulted in numerous consultations, founders are eager for tangible outcomes. The 2025 agenda presents a pivotal opportunity to move beyond dialogue and drive meaningful progress.
