Prominent investors contribute to Cleantech for UK’s advocacy for a comprehensive strategy to scale clean technologies and ensure continued industrial competitiveness and prosperity.
Cleantech for UK, an initiative that aims at supercharging the UK cleantech eco-system, convenes a coalition of investors in the cleantech space. The coalition launched in February of this year at an event attended by the Prime Minister, as well as Breakthrough Energy founder Bill Gates. Cleantech for UK’s coalition initially boasted six leading UK investors, and now welcomes five new members to the fold: Decarbonization Partners, Deep Science Ventures, Green Angel Ventures, Octopus Ventures and 2150.
The investors who join Cleantech for UK’s coalition will strengthen the initiative’s advocacy for the UK to grasp the once-in-a-generation economic opportunity afforded by the green transition.
“Cleantech for UK is delighted to welcome these eminent investors to our coalition. They see the opportunity offered by innovative cleantech companies in the UK, as well as the urgency to drive positive climate outcomes. Policymakers should heed our clarion call to deliver a bold strategy to scale up tomorrow’s cleantech champions."
- Sarah Mackintosh, Director of Cleantech for UK
Earlier this year, Cleantech for UK released a landmark report on the state of UK cleantech investment. More recently, Cleantech for UK published an open letter, “Fast-track, Fund and Focus”, to the Chancellor of the Exchequer, as well as the Secretary of State for the Department of Energy Security and Net Zero. The letter outlined six priority action items for policy makers, all of which, if enacted, would help maintain the UK’s cleantech competitiveness.
The expansion of Cleantech for UK’s coalition underlines the opportunity offered by cleantech to provide thousands of well-paid employment opportunities while driving positive climate impact. The new members of Cleantech for UK’s coalition are:
Enabling UK cleantech companies to scale offers a chance to revitalise the British economy and maintain the UK’s historical leadership in the race towards net zero. Key economies across the globe are moving to invest unprecedented amounts of money in their respective homegrown cleantech communities. Thus, Cleantech for UK advocates for a bold response to this increased global competition, so that the UK does not lose out on this generational economic opportunity.
